Summer roasts – the latest pub food trend

summer roast

A cracking Sunday roast is one thing. A cracking summer roast is another.

As the days heat up, many of us still want that pub Sunday lunch magic but lighter.

Introducing the new summer sharing roasts at The Avalon in Clapham, arguably one of the best summer roasts in London.

Their new slow-cooked lamb from Blixes Farm in Essex, is roasted in a way that makes carving effortless. The gravy is gone. Instead, it’s served with quinoa tabbouleh, harissa, yoghurt and homemade flatbread.

Better yet, it’s for two to share. We all tend to hibernate in the winter but the British summer brings out our best side; when we remember who we are again and re-connect as the sun shines.

Couple this with The Avalon’s outside Secret Garden, named by Time Out as one of London’s best, or their front terrace or side courtyard, and you are spoilt for alfresco spaces in which to savour your new favourite Sunday dish.

Traditionalists aren’t forgotten either. If you’re still up for sharing, tuck into a mixed roast of beef, pork and chicken, served with roasted parsnips and carrots, roast potatoes, seasonal greens, mac and cheese, Yorkshire pudding, bread sauce, apple sauce AND gravy.

If you are a strict non-food sharer, we all know one, single portion roasts, including pork belly and a vegan butternut squash and spinach Wellington are also on the Sunday menu.

Summer Sundays at The Avalon just got even more roasting.
