Change a Child’s Life for £1

Christmas is often about Santa and stockings full to brim but for children with disabilities on Kenya it’s quite a different story.

This October, Tom Peake, co-owner and founder of Three Cheers Pub Co went to Gilgil in Kenya to see first hand the difficulties these children face but also how it’s possible to change their lives.

Buoyed by his experience, Three Cheers Pubs are launching their Christmas ‘Change A Child’s Life For £1’ campaign. From 25th November until 24th December, all customers will be asked to add an optional donation of £1 to the bottom of their bills. If they do so, Three Cheers pubs will double it.

100% of the money from the ‘Change a Child’s Life for £1’ campaign will go the Kivuli Trust. The Kivuli Trust have built two hostels in Gigil, where 68 children with disabilities attend a specialist school and live together in a wonderful loving environment. Currently just one percent of children with disabilities in Kenya have access to school. They are kept at home due to social stigma, lack of hope and fear. Allowing them this chance to attend school ensures that they each have the fulfilled and educated life they always deserved.

The money raised by Three Cheers customers will allow these children to have hot water and enjoy a brand new a playground. Quite simply, it will change their lives. They currently wash with one bowl of water in the evening. Now they will be able to have a shower via solar water heaters. They have never seen what we would traditionally call a playground, so this is guaranteed to put a smile on their faces.

Since 2009 Three Cheers Pubs have helped with the operating costs of the hostels but this extra boost is bound to make the world of difference.

Help us, help them, change children’s lives this Christmas.
